Dad & Mom (College - 1941!)

My Mom, Rosemarie D'Amico Seligmann, died on Mothers Day, May 13th, 2001 after a very unexpected stroke.  This poem was written by my 16 year old son while sitting by her bedside in the hospital.  Mom was a very special woman who will be remembered in our hearts forever.

Not Here, Not Now, Not Like This

By Eric Seligmann

I see you lying there in your bed
I wonder what you see in your head
Is it you treading among wildflowers
Watching your children during the early hours
When the dew has just fallen
I can hear you calling my name
Over and over
You call louder and louder
But I can’t touch you
And I know you are watching us
Laughing and crying for us
Because you are all of our mother
But you were the one that was supposed to live forever
And you always will in our hearts
You know, you were the one who always
Brought this family together
Even now under the stormy weather
This time your not piling our plates
Higher and higher
Sharing, laughing, encouraging us
To Mangia! Mangia!
This is your home
Here with us
Off somewhere dreaming of old Italy and Rome
I know you’re not going to let them pull the plug
Even though it would be in love
I sit here wishing in vein
For you to just wake up wash away the rain
Of tears off our faces
And wondering ....
Are you in pain
The answers will come soon enough
Even if we can’t see them just yet
I just want you to know
What an incredible grandma
And mother you have been
Yes you, lively old
Rosemarie Seligmann
